For many people around the world, The Simpsons are the "typical American family" (Henry 46). But...why? What makes them American? (Apart from being created in the USA) In this post, we are going to give you some information about the Americanization in “The Simpsons". This family from Springfield is often shown going to church on Sundays, travelling with their car going to work, and the yellow color is the prominent among the characters. As Henry highlights, The Simpsons fit in what is known as the 'normative' American Family that consists in the concept of WASP, white (well, yellow), middle class, suburban, and Protestant (46). The United States of America is one of the main countries in which capitalism and consumerism reign. This can be seen in the tv show quite clearly as the characters share many features and behaviours typical from this economical current. For instance, there are many scenes in the supermarkets which show the family shopping and buying things they do not really need but that are on sale. Here you can watch this video in which Homer decides to go shopping for a new computer and gets tricked to buy the most expensive one of the shop eventhough he does not really need one so special. However, the salesman convinces him that in order to not be a "sucker" he need to buy that one.  Something very curious happens in the Simpsons game, The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Improving our knowledge on The Simpsons

Now that you have made the questionnaire, you are aware of your knowledge about The Simpsons . It is incredible how we are used to turn on the television and watch day after day “The Simpsons”. This feeling can be motivated because of the length of time that this series has been on air. After more than 3 decades, they are still making laugh families from all around the world. Moreover, this TV series affects us in our daily life directly or indirectly.   Part of their success is that they can be enjoyed by children and adults. It has been criticized many times the way in which the series creates humour since it seems to be too violent or explicit in some cases. Due to that criticism, it is not clear if the target audience of this series is suitable for all audiences or just adults.   Indeed, this TV series deals with the daily problems of a stereotypical North-American family like when they are at job, school or the supermarket.
