For many people around the world, The Simpsons are the "typical American family" (Henry 46). But...why? What makes them American? (Apart from being created in the USA) In this post, we are going to give you some information about the Americanization in “The Simpsons". The United States of America is one of the main countries in which capitalism and consumerism reign. This can be seen in the tv show quite clearly as the characters share many features and behaviours typical from this economical current. For instance, there are many scenes in the supermarkets which show the family shopping and buying things they do not really need but that are on sale. Here you can watch this video in which Homer decides to go shopping for a new computer and gets tricked to buy the most expensive one of the shop eventhough he does not really need one so special. It is incredible how we are used to turn on the television and watch day after day “The Simpsons”. This feeling can be motivated because of the length of time that this series has been on air. After more than 3 decades, they are still making laugh families from all around the world.
